Walking not weeding

We keep very busy hand weeding at our project sites in the springtime. Again this year I organised a bush walk for Cottesloe Coastcare volunteers as a fun change from getting together only to toil among the weeds!

Welcome to Alex

In May 2014 Alex Johnston began work as our ‘Coastcare Officer’.  Alex’s proper title is Coastal and Marine Program Manager with Perth Region NRM (Natural Resources Management).

Planting almost finished for 2014

We have had varied weather conditions on our planting days again this year. You might have read an earlier posting about Coastcare for Singles on a very ‘wild and woolly’ day in May!

Coastcare for Singles May 2014

Coastcare for Singles’ was great fun and an extraordinary effort by more than 30 people in the rain and wind on the central Cottesloe foreshore.

Coastcare – from fact to fiction

Sally’s recent novel ‘Stella’s Sea’ has an environmental bent and it includes lovely observations of our beautiful local landscape. Cottesloe Coastcare features in the book.

Pricewaterhouse Coopers to the rescue!

On Monday 22nd January a group of enthusiastic people from Pricewaterhouse Coopers joined CCA volunteers for a working bee. It was a hot morning but we achieved a great deal and perhaps rescued some of the very stressed small plants by giving them a big drink.

Party time and thanks to Greg

2013 has been a busy and successful year for Cottesloe Coastcare. Our Chairman, Mike Ewing briefly spoke about the achievements of the year at our recent Christmas party – held on the main lawn at our beautiful Civic Centre.

A letter from William

William Parkinson wrote the letter (below) to the Post newspaper. CCA volunteers spend lots of time picking up rubbish, which has often been carelessly discarded with no thought to the problems caused to the environment and to marine life. We love our coast too and encourage everyone to take care of it!

Kate Sputore wins prestigious Landcare award

Congratulations Kate! Cottesloe Coastcare volunteers join other northern suburbs Coastal volunteers who work under Kate Sputore’s ‘wing’  to congratulate her on the Landcare award she received this week.

The last seedling is planted for 2013!

It is always a good feeling to have finished planting for the year! We dug the last hole and watered in the last seedling on July 12th. Since then the plants have received some good falls of rain so it all augurs well, to date, for a good survival rate this year.
