Kate Sputore wins prestigious Landcare award
Congratulations Kate! Cottesloe Coastcare volunteers join other northern suburbs Coastal volunteers who work under Kate Sputore’s ‘wing’ to congratulate her on the Landcare award she received this week. Kate, the Coastal and Marine Program Manager at Perth Region NRM and Northern Metropolitan Coastcare Officer provides volunteers and local government authorities with support for coastal rehabilitation projects and is pro-active in her engagement with all aspects of coastal restoration. Kate’s expertise is matched by her passion for the environment. Kate is also a great teacher and spends much of her time inspiring school and University students. CCA volunteers are thrilled with this public acknowledgement of Kate’s commitment and achievements.
Dr Mike Ewing (CCA’s Chairman) congratulated Kate for her Young Landcare Leaders award on behalf of all CCA volunteers and noted that Kate was ‘”modest about such things but it is reassuring for us that the system can see and recognise the exceptional effort that you commit to you role.”

Young landcare leader wins award At a special ceremony held at Government House last night, Kate Sputore was awarded the prestigious Innovative Young Landcare Leader Award by Malcolm McCusker, the Governor of Western Australia. The award was sponsored by Westpac Agribusiness and was one of several other awards announced by Landcare Australia. With a passion for environmental education, Kate Sputore works with local volunteer groups, Coastcare associations, corporations and educational institutions to coordinate planting days to help revegetate and preserve selected coastal areas. She also conducts workshops and field days to help share best practice information and raise awareness about coastal and marine flora and fauna, ecosystems, climate change and environmental threats. One of Kate’s recent events was “Coastcare for Singles” held at Leighton Beach, aimed at encouraging a new generation of volunteers to engage in environmental activities. Kate Sputore is the Coastal and Marine Program Manager at Perth Region NRM, a not-for-profit organisation that coordinates a range of environmental programs across the Swan region in Western Australia. Her role is hosted by the Town of Cottesloe. “Kate is a fabulous example of the difference just one individual can make through passion and hard work. Her ability to engage people at all levels of community, business and government is outstanding,” says Lisa Potter, Chief Executive Officer, Perth Region NRM.
