Pricewaterhouse Coopers to the rescue!
On Monday 22nd January a group of enthusiastic people from Pricewaterhouse Coopers joined CCA volunteers for a working bee. It was a hot morning but we achieved a great deal and perhaps rescued some of the very stressed small plants by giving them a big drink. Many thanks to PwC and staff for their continued support of our restoration work.
Annie Schmitz from Pricewaterhouse Coopers sent this article for our blog:
‘As part of their Campus Campaign, PwC hosts a 3-week vacation program for University Students. Twelve Vacationers and three PwC foundation champions attended the morning assisting Cottesloe Coastcare volunteers at Grant Marine Park.
The group assisted in watering native plants that had been planted a few months prior, digging wells around each plant to ensure that the plants obtained much needed hydration. The group also assisted in mulching the soil around the pathways to encourage passer-by’s to stay on the path, and to minimise degradation of the site. They also weeded, pulling out ‘couch grass’ which took alot of time, as the roots had gotten deep and were entwined with some of the native plants.
The group had an opportunity to take multiple breaks, as the sun and heat was soaring! Robyn (Volunteer Co-ordinator) provided some much needed nutrition – via some raisin shortbread and juice.
The activity provided not only the opportunity to assist in PwC’s Corporate Responsibility initiative and help the community, but a chance to have fun and get to know their peers. After the group had completed the tasks, they went down to the beach and cooled their feet and hands, before heading back to the office to complete their last two weeks of their vacation experience’.
