Planting 2021

Another brilliant planting season with 4,000 plants in the ground and lots of well timed rain to water them in. Our core team of Coastcare volunteers have had terrific help from community volunteers at our National Tree Day planting,  corporate volunteers from Stantec and Calibre and enthusiastic help from schools including CBC , John XXIII and Christchurch. We couldn’t achieve these sorts of results without this extra help and we love  having new faces come along and join us. A big thank you to all these extra helpers and of course our regular volunteers!

There is a heap of work that goes in to making these planting days a success and the commitment and expertise of Robyn and Mike is key. They liaise with contractors, our wonderful specialist nursery suppliers Nuts about Natives and Apace, and Troy and Matt from Town of Cottesloe to make sure we have healthy plants and well prepared sites. This year Mike and a team of contractors dug beautiful deep holes with our super new auger and this makes a huge difference.

We are also very grateful to our sponsors  Coastwest and The Seedling Bank via Planet Ark. We’ve had delicious treats too from Fleur and Isabel from Leaf Bean Machine and Karvan Coffee, a donation of the best ever cinnamon scrolls from North Street Store and yummy scones from Helen Burke.  All much appreciated after a hard mornings work.

And here’s the story told with Robyn’s photos….
