Mike and Ayesha (Apace Nursery) with our plants

This year we have 4000 seedlings all grown from local provenance seed (which was collected and cleaned by our volunteers). Two nurseries have grown the plants for us and Town of Cottesloe have paid for the plants. We started planting on 27th April at Dutch Inn groyne. CCA worked with a small team from Conservation Volunteers Australia planting in an area where Victorian Teatree had been removed, now replacing it with local shrubs and ground covers.

Another planting session on May 4th near Sydney Street was a great team effort and included some hole digging from Jade and Brett from the Cottesloe Depot team – many thanks!

Our biggest planting effort so far this year was a very successful session at CCA’s new site which is a totally degraded foreshore area immediately to the north of CCA’s Napier St dunes work site. Town of Cottesloe contracted Syrinx Environmental to weed the site and lay an expanse of jute matting on the very unstable, steep slope. Syrinx also prepared the matting with many holes for planting which made life much easier for those of us who toiled busily all morning! We planted 700 seedlings and gave them a very good watering. This project will take several years but we are very excited about the prospect of restoring this unstable waste land to a stable dune rich with local plants, insects, birds and lizards – and it will look great too!

Picnic lunch Saturday 14th May

After all our work we shared a picnic lunch which was very kindly donated by Cottesloe IGA (Eric Street). Cottesloe IGA have supported CCA over several years – in fact we were using some great long handled shovels that IGA donated last year. A big thank you to Drew and Phil and all the staff at IGA. And a big thank you to everyone!
