Celebrating 30 years!
In November we celebrated 30 years of Cottesloe Coastcare’s work in the natural areas of Cottesloe. It was a great celebration in the beautiful Curtin Heritage Centre and terrific to see so many of our volunteers who have helped us achieve the impressive results that can be seen in the natural areas of Cottesloe. Cottesloe Coastcare started in 1995 and since then the dunes and other natural areas have been transformed into natural habitat for local wildlife, protection against erosion and an attractive vista for the thousands of people who come to the coast at Cottesloe. Success has been due to the hard work of many volunteers guided by the leadership of Robyn and Mike.
Partnerships are essential to our work, in particular that with the Town of Cottesloe. We welcomed Mark Newman the new CEO of the Town as well as Mayor Melissa Harkins and a number of Councillors. Mike and Robyn acknowledged the importance of the consistent support we have had from the Council over the years. Support at an operational level is also critical and Adeline Morrissey, and now Mieke Sharp, have been not only supportive but a pleasure to work with.
Support has also come from:
- Perth NRM – an important partner over many years. The current Adopt a Beach program has been a great success with the students from Cottesloe Primary School.
- Consistent grant support from Coastwest – a State Government program to support coastal land management.
- Financial support from donors, including Dorado, which allows us to extend our activities.
- Nature Based Play who designed and built our wonderful Nature Play Space near the Vlamingh Memorial in South Cottesloe.
Thank you everyone who has supported Cottesloe Coastcare over the last 30 years. Now for the next 30 years!
