A great ‘Hullabaloo’

Saturday 10th November was the Cottesloe ‘Hullabaloo Festival’ in Napoleon Street. The busy street is closed to traffic all day and soon fills up with stalls from nearby businesses. Clowns and stilt walkers entertain, music is broadcast, lots of balloons, there is food and drink and lots to buy.

An adventure for Mike’s glasses

Mike’s glasses  have just returned from a winter adventure.  They were previously last seen hanging around the neck of Mike Ewing during a working session back in March at the Dutch Inn site in south Cottesloe.

In mid- August Cottesloe Coastcare had a bus load of enthusiastic helpers from John XX111.

V day for UWA students

A group of UWA students gave their time to Cottesloe Coastcare as their volunteer commitment. We are in the middle of our annual planting effort so we really appreciated the group’s enthusiasm and excellent work.

Sea monsters, breweries, typhoid and our AGM!

Did you know that: a “sea monster” washed up on Cottesloe beach in 1931; that Aitken’s brewery opened in South Cottesloe in 1897; and seven people caught typhoid after drinking milk from a Cottesloe dairy?

Party time

On Sunday 4th December twenty five Cottesloe Coastcarers and friends met on the Cottesloe Civic Centre lawns for our Christmas get-together. It was a superb evening after a very hot day.

WA Coastal Awards for Excellence 2011

Robyn was delighted to accept an Individual Contribution award at the Dept of Planning’s smart new building in William Street. The award was given for the successful weedy seadragon campaign and 15 years of Coastcaring.

Coca-cola’s Grocery WA Team – weeders extraordinaire!

As part of CCA’s Sustainability September, the WA Grocery Team volunteered their Tuesday morning to assist Cottesloe Coastcare complete one of the very important, though less glamorous aspect of their role; weeding!

Success – Weedy Seadragons protected in WA!

Friday 24 June 2011 the WA Fisheries Minister announced that weedy seadragons (Phyllopteryx taeniolatus) will be declared a protected species under new regulations to be put to the WA parliament.

Foundation Day

Last week WA celebrated  Foundation Day commemorating the arrival of the first European settlers in WA in 1829. From an early time people, animals and the weather made their mark on the coast at Cottesloe. Robyn’s  The Goats of Grant Marine Park tells the story of one such interaction….
