2015 planting finished

After two weeks of intensive planting in May and June we now have 3,500 new plants in our natural areas. We had some terrific help from Conservation Volunteers Australia, Price Waterhouse Coopers, Rio Tinto and for the first time the Green Army. The extra hands meant we could achieve so much more.

At Grant Marine Park, Alex our Coastcare Officer and the Green Army team tried a new method of securing brush below the lookout. We hope this will stop people trampling the new plants.

After clearing a big patch of tea tree at Cottesloe Native Garden the Green Army worked with us to replant the area. It was especially pleasing to replant grass tree seedlings that had been propagated from seed collected from the old pre European grass trees that remain here. As the best piece of undisturbed secondary dune in Cottesloe this is a special area for us. It is nice to think that in 200 years time there will be some magnificent old grass trees.

Our final plantings were at Vlamingh and then at the Napier Street dunes where we shared a celebratory lunch. A busy but satisfying couple of weeks and we are very grateful for all the help we received.
